Tracking systems
Vehicle tracking systems are an essential tool for modern vehicle security, offering real-time location monitoring, theft alerts, and detailed journey logs. Whether for personal use or fleet management, these systems provide peace of mind by significantly increasing the chances of vehicle recovery in the event of theft. Many insurers now require approved tracking systems, particularly for high-value or high-risk vehicles, often categorised under specific insurance grading standards: S7 or S5.
S7 and S5 Tracking Systems
S7 is the entry-level insurance-approved tracking system. It uses GPS and GSM technology to provide location monitoring and alerts if the vehicle is moved without authorization (tow away alert). While S7 systems are effective for basic theft recovery, they do not include any form of driver recognition or immobilisation.
S5 tracking systems, on the other hand, are more advanced and meet the requirements for higher-risk vehicles. In addition to GPS tracking, S5 systems include automatic driver recognition—usually via a discreet fob. If the vehicle is moved without the fob present, the system instantly notifies a monitoring centre, increasing the chances of fast recovery before the vehicle is moved far.
S5+ with Immobilisation
S5+ refers to an enhanced version of the S5 system that includes remote or automatic immobilisation. This feature allows the vehicle to be disabled remotely by the monitoring centre or prevents it from starting unless the authorised fob is detected. Immobilisation adds an extra layer of security and is particularly valuable in preventing vehicle theft via key cloning or relay attacks.
Whether you're securing a personal car, commercial vehicle, or an entire fleet, choosing the right tracking system can protect your assets, lower your insurance premiums, and give you complete control over your vehicle’s safety.
